There are a lot of things that people look at when buying a home. Truly the list is endless, and it can cause you to feel lost in the middle of it all. There are some important things that you want to be mindful of when it comes to the electrical side of things. The Copper Connection wants to help identify some of those important items on your list of things to look for. Of course, these items will be looked at when you have a home inspector come through. This will give you an idea of either what you should fix before you put your home on the market or what you should look for if you are buying a home.
One of the common problems found when it comes to home electrical is improperly wired switches or outlets. If you had a certified electrician do your home’s electrical then you should be good and on the safe side of things. If you have ever done any of your own home electrical then there might be a couple things that you got wrong unknowingly. If that is the case, then you will want to go through and make sure you have them wired correctly.
Ungrounded outlets are also a big concern. If you do not have an older home, then you are less likely to find this issue in your home. The only trouble with newer homes is if it looks like that outlet is grounded but unfortunately, you find that it is not. You can easily tell if you have grounds in your outlets though if your outlets not only have the two prongs but also a third one below them. This does not mean there is a guarantee that they are wired properly though.
Missing or out of date smoke alarms are among the most consistent things that need to be fixed when it comes to home inspections. They need to be less than 10 years old for them to pass the inspection. People usually tend to just take their smoke detectors out instead of changing the batteries on them and then forget where they put them. The good news is that smoke detectors are not that expensive and can be found at your local hardware store.
Some of these items you can fix yourself, while others should be fixed by an electrician. If you have some of these problems in your home, then do not hesitate to call us today. The Copper Connection can help you with any electrical needs you may have!
